AUSTIN (KXAN) – Republican candidates for statewide offices are leading democrat rivals by double digits a new poll by the University of Texas and Texas Tribune found.
The poll, released Thursday, shows Greg Abbott leads Wendy Davis by 16 points in the race for governor. It shows Dan Patrick carries a 17-point lead over Leticia Van de Putte in the race for Texas Lieutenant Governor.
“The substantial leads held by Republicans from the top to the bottom of the ballot suggest that the much-discussed demographic changes in the state are unlikely to translate into an immediate reversal of fortune for the Democratic Party in this election,” said James Henson, director of the Texas Politics Project at The University of Texas at Austin and a co-director of the poll
Conducted in early October, the poll carries a margin of error of +/- 3.28 points.
