AUSTIN (KXAN) – An early morning fire destroyed a house behind some businesses along a popular strip of South Congress.
When firefighters arrived at about 3:30 a.m., flames were consuming the building that they initially described as a “garage apartment.” It was a wood-frame residence tucked close to other buildings. No one was inside and the crews later discovered it was being used for storage.
No one was hurt in the fire fight. Emergency crews spent a few hours securing the area and checking for hot spots. One lane of Congress was closed for emergency vehicles for about an hour and a half.
Fire investigators are still looking for the cause of the fire and putting together damage estimates.
