Thousands attend 7th annual Dogtoberfest

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Thousands of Austinites and their four-legged companions flocked to the Domain Saturday for the seventh annual Dogtoberfest.

The event works to raise awareness about dog rescue and also raise money for local shelters and rescue organizations.

KXAN First Warning Weather’s Jim Spencer kept everyone on a tight leash as emcee of the event, and KXAN was a proud sponsor. Dogtoberfest draws several thousand people to the Domain each year with plenty of canine competitions, including the popular “Wiener Dog Races.” Many of the attendees, including the canines, even sport themed costumes.

The APD K9 Unit also put on an exhibition to show off its skills. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
