AUSTIN (KXAN) — A pothole caused big problems on the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near Onion Creek on Thursday. Just after 7 a.m., police blocked the center lane of I-35 over Onion Creek after a large chunk of the roadway was missing.
Texas Department of Transportation crews, Austin police and Highway Emergency Response crews responded to make fixes and to help drivers with flat tires. APD reported a similar situation via Twitter on Monday night. A spokesperson for the Highway Emergency Roadside Assistance says that the wear-and-tear on area roads sometimes cause these things happen.
“Concrete is concrete. It’s going to crack. Once that cracks on two ends, and it’s going to pop out and become a hazard,” said the spokesperson.
It took crews about two hours to make the repairs. If you come across a pothole on your commute 311 is the number to call.
