MoPac speed limit increases north of 183

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Drivers who depend on MoPac to get around will soon notice the speed limit will be back to 65 MPH north of Highway 183 when workers are not on site.

Thursday, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo joined MoPac officials to discuss their concerns about speeding, distracted and drunk driving along this stretch of MoPac. They say the speed limit will be lowered to 55 MPH when needed to help protect workers.

“So don’t tell us it’s a speed trap,” Acevedo said. “Don’t tell us it’s about making money. It’s about saving lives and getting these men and women home and getting the men and women driving here home.”

Remember the eyes of Texas will be upon you if you get caught speeding in a construction zone, your fine will double. Just a note to pass along, the MoPac improvement project is about 43 percent complete will be completely wrapped up by the end of 2015.
