AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 32-year-old man is facing aggravated assault charges after a witness said he punched a cyclist.

At about 10:15 on Sept. 20, medics responded to the scene near Manor Road and Rogge Lane in Northeast Austin where they found 41-year-old Louis Calvo unconscious. He was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with a life threatening head injury. He died at the hospital four days later.

At the time, officers and medical personnel believed Calvo’s injuries were caused by a bike accident. But on Sept. 25, a witness who contacted police said he saw Tori Beemon punch Calvo in the face, causing him to fall off the bike and hit his head on the pavement, an arrest affidavit said. Beemon tried to wake Calvo before moving him down the block and taking money from his pockets, the document said.

Officers were told Tuesday to be on the lookout for Beemon, and he was arrested the next day for possession of drug paraphernalia. The officer found him sitting at a bus stop at Manor Road and Sweeney Lane, just a few blocks away from the alleged assault.

Police later charged Beemon with aggravated assault and is being held on $110,000. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
