Stolen moped spurs K-9 search in West Campus

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Officers with dogs searched for a thief in West Campus early Tuesday morning. They were hunting for someone suspected of stealing mopeds.

Early in the morning, people in an upper-level apartment above an alley between San Gabriel and Robbins Place saw two men putting mopeds in the bed of a pickup truck. The witnesses called police. Officers arrived and found the truck carrying the mopeds.

Officers set up patrol cars on several blocks around Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Robbins Place at about 4:30 a.m. They detained one person, but later determined he was not a suspect. No one has been arrested for the crime.
