SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — The man suspected of shooting a store employee during a robbery Sunday in San Marcos is now in custody. Steven Carlos Hernandez, 20, has been charged with aggravated robbery after police say he walked into the Gotta Habit Smoke Shop about 6:15 p.m., near the Texas State University campus, and shot a worker in his chest when the man confronted him.

Hernandez was arrested Thursday night in the 2300 block of Clovis Barker Lane by Hays County and San Marcos SWAT officers. He was arrested without incident and is being held in the Hays County Jail on $75,000 bond.

Store surveillance video showed a man entering the store with his gun drawn before 25-year-old Patrick William Reilly approached him and tried to wrestle the gun away. Police say Reilly was shot during the struggle and that Hernandez then ran from the store. Reilly was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he was still listed in critical condition Thursday.

Police say their investigation into the shooting is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
