Austin doctors offer up dates for charity

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin MD Magazine is hosting a “Date a Doc” charity event Saturday night, putting local physicians and therapists up on the auction block.

Dates with a dozen medical professionals – six men and six women – will be sold to the highest bidders.  Tsambika Bakiris is among them.  She is a speech pathologist and therapist who established her own home health agency, Sonrisas Therapies, in 2011.  Her group provides speech, physical and occupational therapy in the home environment, with a focus on working with Spanish-English bilinguals.

The money pledged will be donated to the doctor’s local charity of choice. Bakiris chose to donate her bid to the Center for Child Protection, which works to prevent child abuse.

The Date a Doc event runs from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Tickets are still available. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
