AUSTIN (KXAN) — Beginning Monday morning, the City of Austin will close the Great Lawn of Zilker Park. Setup is slated to begin at 7 a.m. for the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The park will be closed for at least the next four weeks. Signs have been posted at all of the entrances letting people know about the closure.
This is the second year ACL is running two weekends in a row, so the closures are a little longer than in years past. And when the park reopens on Oct. 26, it will only be open a week before setup for the annual holiday Trail of Lights begins. However, the Parks Department will keep a small section of the Great Lawn open during November and December.
“The entire upper southwest quadrant of the Great Lawn actually remains open through the entire time of the Trail of Lights, so there is a significant portion of the lawn that is open and remains open throughout the entire period in December,” said Jason Maurer, Austin Parks and Recreation events manager.
Barton Springs Road will remain open during the buildout for ACL and will only close during the festival days, which are Oct. 3 through Oct. 5 and then again from Oct. 10 through Oct. 12.
