CPR training is now a requirement for graduation in Texas schools. Cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States.

Dr. Paul Tucker from St. David’s South Austin Medical Center came to KXAN to talk about the importance of CPR training. “Once you have a little bit of training and you know what you are doing you can save a life,” Tucker said.

Most people you have four minutes without CPR before there can be brain damage. Chest compressions help circulate the oxygen that is already in the body to the brain.

The American Heart Association recommends CPR training every two years.

CPR training courses are available throughout Austin.
