AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police tweeted “I-35 @ C. Chavez traffic investigation concluded. S/B I-35 – – – Roadway is OPEN! Drive safe! WC1.”

Officials closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 35 this morning at Caesar Chavez Street after reports of a pedestrian on the main lanes of the interstate.  Austin-Travis County EMS crews confirmed a man in his 30s was pronounced dead on the scene.

The morning rush-hour road closure snarled traffic beginning around 7:30 a.m. APD reopened all lanes about an hour later.  Traffic is returning to normal as rush hour subsides. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
