ABENSBERG, Germany (NBC/RTV) — It’s September, and that means it’s beer festival time in Bavaria, in southern Germany. And for one German man, Sunday was a day for the record books. He set what’s said to be a new world record for carrying the most full mugs of beer at one time — 27 of them.
The competition happened at the annual beer festival in the town of Abensberg. Oliver Struempfel has worked at the festival for 17 years, so he has a lot of experience.
He also had tough competition. Another man carried 26 full mugs the required 40-plus yards. So Oliver had to carry 27 to win. He did, and there was quite a celebration.
And if you want to train for this event, you should know that 27 1-liter beer mugs weigh about 136 pounds.
