ELGIN, Texas (KXAN) — A train and a car crashed Sunday afternoon. A woman survived the crash, which stopped the train for at least two hours.

“We were inside watching the football game heard the train go by. Didn’t think anything of it,” said Leann Resendez, who lives nearby. “And then all of a sudden there were sirens.”

The Department of Public Safety reports the driver had only minor cuts. Resendez went to the scene near VFW Road and 1704 near Elgin to see what happened.

“There was a car in the ditch and several firemen helping an elderly lady out of the car, and they walked her back to the ambulance,” she said.

DPS did not yet have an exact reason for what caused the crash.
