Town keeping pink medians in painting mixup

WIJCHEN, Netherlands (NBC/EBU) — Officials in a Dutch town have decided to keep the city’s pink traffic medians, despite pink not being the intended color. The pink carpet at this traffic island in Wijchen has become quite popular among local residents. It started as a mistake, when a local officer in charge of painting the island used the wrong color.

Now, the traffic medians might become even more colorful. Officials are giving local artists two weeks to come up with a plan to be even more creative with the medians.

Meanwhile, the pink medians don’t appear to be a distraction for drivers. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
