Texas mall security guard fatally shoots man

HOUSTON (AP) — Police say a Houston mall security guard fatally shot a homeless man who attacked an officer. The Houston Chronicle reports the unidentified man was shot behind the Northline Commons on Wednesday.

The security guard called Houston police officers after he said the man refused to leave the property. Police say the officer also ordered the man to leave.

Authorities say the man punched the officer and tried to attack the security guard, who shot him. The man was transported to an area hospital, where he died.

The mall’s general manager says the mall is investigating the incident and cooperating with police. The security guard has not been charged. Police say they’re investigating the shooting as a homicide. They haven’t released any names.
