HUTTO, Texas (KXAN) — An 18-year-old woman is expected to make a full recovery after being hit by a train as she tried to cross the tracks on foot.

The incident happened about 6 p.m. on Aug. 30 near U.S. Highway 79 and Exchange Boulevard in Hutto. There are two sets of tracks in the area, one of which was occupied by stationary train cars. A Union Pacific train heading west was on the other set of tracks.

The train engineer saw the woman walking in the open near the tracks, and again when she came out from between two stationary cars. The engineer initiated an emergency stop and sounded the horn, but the woman was not able to make it across the track before being hit.

She was taken to Seton Medical Center in Round Rock, where she was still being treated on Wednesday.

It is a Class C misdemeanor to trespass onto railroad property, authorities added.
