Funeral held for slain Texas police chief

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The funeral for a Texas police chief who was killed while trying to arrest a man was held Tuesday. Cornerstone Church in San Antonio hosted the services for slain Elmendorf Police Chief Michael Pimentel. Porter Loring Mortuary had visitation on Monday.

Pimentel was shot in the shoulder and abdomen on Aug. 23 while trying to serve an active misdemeanor warrant for graffiti. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Joshua Manuel Lopez on a capital murder charge in the slaying. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Pimentel is survived by his mother, a daughter, a son and other relatives. Elmendorf has around 1,500 residents and is about 25 miles southeast of San Antonio.
