UPDATE: After a four-hour investigation, Austin Police opened Riverside Drive at Grove Boulevard just after 10:30 a.m.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — East Riverside Drive at Grove Boulevard was closed for several hours after a crash involving a Capital Metro bus and another car on Sunday morning. Two patients were transported to the hospital, one with life threatening injuries.

According to John Julitz, Capital Metro spokesperson, the bus was stopped on Riverside when the car hit it from behind. The bus was just leaving Capital Metro headquarters to start its shift. The bus driver had minor back injuries.

Police responded to the crash just before 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

The driver of the car, a woman in her forties, is in critical condition at University Medical Center Brackenridge. The second patient is the bus driver, who was transported to UMCB with minor injuries.

Police expect Riverside Drive to be closed for several hours Sunday morning as the vehicular homicide team investigates the cause of the crash.
