NW Hills brush fire under control

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Fire Department has knocked down a brush fire in a greenbelt on the southwest side of Mesa and Spicewood Springs Road. They were called to the scene in Northwest Hills at about 7:20 p.m. Sunday.

Fire officials say the fire started on an observation deck in Stillhouse Hollow Nature Preserve and spread to brush around the deck. Currently, no structures are in danger, according to AFD.

Crews had a hard time getting to the fire, and officials say they had to stretch a hose line about 1/4 of a mile to fight it.

STARFlight arrived over the scene at about 7:45 p.m., but AFD says they cannot drop water on the fire after dark. They assisted with aerial observation.

We have a crew on the scene and will have the latest on KXAN News at Ten.
