Anthropologist called to help ID body found in Bastrop Co. field

BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) — Authorities have yet to identify the person they found dead in a field north of Bastrop on Wednesday. The body was found about 6:15 p.m. in the 300 block of BJ Mayes Road.

After an autopsy Friday in Travis County, it was determined a forensic anthropologist would be called in to further examine the remains and help identify the person and a provide a possible cause of death. Police initially said the victim could not be identified due to the condition of the body.

Bastrop police added they could not confirm the body was that of Christine Mohler, who was reported missing Aug. 7 by the Smithville Police Department. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
