Turning trash into treasure with mobile composting

Jeremy Howell with East Side Compost Pedallers joined us in the studio on Thursday to talk about the ways they’re bridging the gap between consumers who produce waste and the community gardens and other farms that use the valuable resource. The organization uses heavy-duty bicycles to collect paper products, fruit and vegetable scraps, eggshells, coffee grounds and other “scrapple” from homes, offices and restaurants in the East Austin Area. They currently serve the area east of I35, with the Colorado River and Hwy 183 as their lower and upper borders. You can sign up for their services online, and they make run on a weekly basis.
