AUSTIN (KXAN) — House Park is where the start of the high school football season will get under way later Thursday night between the Anderson Trojans and McCallum Knights, also known as the Taco Shack Bowl. But before hitting the gridiron, this longtime rivalry was already in competition mode.

McCallum High School won this year’s competition for the Best Team Spirit.

Both teams were up and early Thursday morning to show their team spirit. They’ve been working overnight decorating.

Sports reporter Brent Carney was with the McCallum Knights at the Taco Shack off North Lamar, while sports reporter Chris Tavarez was with the Anderson Trojans at the Taco Shack on Spicewood Springs. Both teams will play at House Park at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

If you can’t make it out there, KXAN will be showing you the game live on our sister station KBVO. By the way, the winner of the team spirit award will be revealed later Thursday morning on KXAN News on The CW Austin. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
