Rivalry Game Kicks off Week 1 in High School Football

McCallum High school is looking for their 3rd straight Taco Shack Bowl win.

There’s nothing like playing your arch rival to start the high school football season.  That is once again the case with McCallum and Anderson in the 13th Annual Tack Shack Bowl Thursday night at House Park and on KBVO-TV.  The series is tied at 6-6 with McCallum winning the last two.

There are some of the best matchups in the state involving Central Texas teams.  Cedar Park will take on Aledo Friday night, that in itself  a marquee matchup, with each claiming a state title in the last two years.  To add to the hype is the fact that the game will be played at Baylor’s new McLane Stadium.   While it’s the real thing for the teams, it will also serve as a dress rehearsal of sorts for the stadium operations before Sunday’s SMU-Baylor game.

Westlake will open the season at Southlake Carroll on Friday.  These are two of the most tradition-rich programs in the state and it also happens to be Todd Dodge’s first game coaching at Westlake.  Dodge put together a legendary run at Southlake Carroll where he led the Dragons to four state titles, from 2002 to 2006 they went 79-1 with their only loss in the 2003 title game.
