Boy struck by lightning still in critical condition

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 9-year-old boy struck by lightning during soccer practice Tuesday is still in critical condition at a Dallas Hospital. Alexander Hermann was at the Lake Travis Youth Association Field of Dreams in Bee Cave when a bolt of lightning from a storm several miles away hit the field.

The fields, which had been closed since the incident, reopened for practices on Thursday.

Two other children who were injured as a result of the lightning strike have been treated and released from the hospital.

Things could have turned out much worse if new coach Carson Monks wasn’t nearby.

“If I wasn’t there, I wouldn’t know what would have happened. No one else knew CPR,” Monks told KXAN on Wednesday. “As soon as I got a pulse, I just felt like a sense of joy, a sense of happiness in doing something and that he’s on his way back to recovery.”
