AUSTIN (KXAN) – 59 percent of Iowa Republicans look favorably on Texas Gov. Rick Perry in a new Public Policy Polling survey – the first glimpse of how voters’ opinions in the days following his criminal indictment. That number is up seven percent since May.
When comparing possible Republican presidential contenders in the first-in-the-nation voting state, Perry ties for fourth with another Texan – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz – each with 10 percent.
They trail former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 19 percent, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 14 percent and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky at 11 percent.
Huckabee was also leading the pack in May, though his numbers have slipped from 20 percent. Perry was not included in that matchup.
