AUSTIN (KXAN) — Rocky is hanging up his badge. After 12 years of honorable service to his country and APD, the retriever mix is ready for his retirement party.
“He worked every day. He would just jump in the back of the car and stay with me all day long,” his partner, Officer Ivan Ramos said.
The Austin Police Department hosted a retirement ceremony Tuesday for the K-9 who’s known for his public service appearances around town and his tough-on-drugs stance.
Before joining APD, Rocky trained with the U.S. Air Force and then went on to train with other military K-9 handlers.
A bit of good news, though, Rocky will get to live with Ramos after retirement.
“I’m kind of sad that he’s stops working, but kind of happy that I keep him because he’s a part of the family,” Ramos said. “Obviously he’s a loveable dog.”
