AUSTIN (AP) — The Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin will mark the late leader’s birthday this week with cake and cupcakes. Wednesday marks what would have been Johnson’s 106th birthday. Johnson, the 36th president of the United States, was born on Aug. 27, 1908, in Central Texas. Johnson, who served as president from 1963 to 1969, died in 1973 at the age of 64.

His presidential library is located on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin. Cake will be served at the library while cupcakes will be served on the campus’ West Mall. An exhibit on display at the library currently called “Sixty from the `60s” looks at 60 Americans who molded the movements, events and lifestyles of the decade. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
