AUSTIN (KXAN) – A person is dead after being involved in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Congress and Lightsey Road.

It happened just before 6 a.m. Sunday in the 3400 block of South Congress.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics found a man in his 40s dead.

A man in his 50s was transported with critical injuries. A man in his 30s had non-life threatening injuries.

Austin Police investigators said two vehicles heading south on Congress were stopped at the redlight at the intersection of Lightsey. The vehicles were each in their own lane. A third vehicle attempted to drive between them, possibly at a high rate of speed, causing the crash.

Austin Police closed all of South Congress while they determined the cause of the crash.
