AISD gearing up for first day of the school year

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Monday is the day tens of thousands of Austin kids are heading back to class.

85,000 students are packing their backpacks and choosing their clothes for the big day.

This year, The Austin Independent School District will have three new campuses and nearly 12,000 staff members.

Two of those new schools are middle schools, and the third is the brand new Jaime Padron Elementary, in honor of the fallen Austin Police officer.

Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz joined Erin Cargile on KXAN News Today Sunday morning to discuss the upcoming school year and talk about what it means to be AISD Proud.
