Texas attorney convicted of stealing from client

cash, money

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) — A South Texas attorney has been found guilty of stealing more than $400,000 from a client.  KRGV-TV reports Rodrigo Martinez Jr. of Edinburg was convicted Thursday on a theft charge. Prosecutors say a woman hired Martinez in 2004 to help her subdivide 10 acres of her land. They say she got a line of credit, but Martinez never worked on the task.

Court records show Martinez drew the money form the woman’s line of credit and used it to buy personal items and office supplies. Martinez is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 2. He faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of life in prison.
