Georgetown ‘preacher’ charged in child sex assault case

GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — A preacher at a Georgetown church has been charged with four counts of sexually assaulting a child who attended the church.

Police arrested 23-year-old Marcos Azael Herrera on Aug. 15 after the allegations came to light. Authorities said he was a “preacher” at Iglesia Evangelica Cristiana Espiritual Church where the girl’s father also worked.

The alleged assaults took place in 2009, when the girl was 4 years old. She told staff at the Williamson County Children Advocacy Center on Aug. 14 about the alleged incidents when a family member brought the girl in.

Herrera is currently in the Williamson County Jail being held on $400,000 bond.
