Leander police reconstruct deadly crash

LEANDER, Texas (KXAN) — While police in Leander wanted drivers to take a different route while they investigated a deadly crash, the process has wrapped up much sooner than anticipated. Officers have reopened the intersection of FM 2243 and U.S. Highway 183A frontage road heading north after shutting it down for about four hours Monday morning. The wreck happened a week ago Monday, killing two teenagers and injuring two others.

Police believe a green Porsche ran a red light, causing the crash. Two other vehicles were involved.: an SUV and a construction truck. The two teenagers in the Porsche died: 19-year-old James Hurtado, of Bertram, and 17-year-old Marshall Whiteley, of Liberty Hill.

The intersection was set to be closed until 3 p.m. Monday as police reconstructed the crash, but it reopened around 10:30 a.m.
