AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man is facing aggravated assault charges following the death of a woman in East Austin early Monday. Police arrested 59-year-old Odis Green Kelly after the death of Patricia Bossick at a home in the 5600 block of Manor Road.
Authorities arrived at the home about 1:30 a.m. and saw a man on a balcony calling for officer to help a woman who “was being assaulted,” according to an arrest affidavit. At that time, police saw another man running from a bedroom in his underwear and later heard sounds of glass breaking in the backyard.
When police made their way into the home, they found Bossick unconscious with a bloody nose, black eyes and bruises to her face and body. Police said her clothing had also been partially removed. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful and she died at the scene. Court documents said Bossick showed signs of asphyxiation.
A witness told police he heard Bossick yell, “Odis, no, no, no!” after she opened the door for Kelly. The witness believed Kelly was trying to rape Bossick, the document said. He also described the home to officers as a “transient house” where people come and go and drugs are used.
Officers were able to follow a trail of blood to a nearby shed where they saw Kelly in his underwear, trying to put on more clothes.
Police say Kelly, who weighs 320 pounds, used his body as a deadly weapon by using his weight to cause injury by lying on top of a ‘substantially smaller person’ and was booked into the Travis County Jail.
APD says they haven’t classified Bossick’s death yet because they’re waiting on the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office to get toxicology reports back before they determine an official cause of death.
