U.S. Coast Guard rescues entangled giant sea turtle

NEAR ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CNN/UNITED STATES COAST GUARD) — The United States Coast Guard is always ready to help sailors and boaters in distress.

It’s not very often they’re called on to rescue sea life — like this giant sea turtle.

The Coast Guard dispatched a rescue team from Cape May to rescue this marine reptile off the New Jersey coast.

A boater saw the animal struggling after it became trapped and tangled in fishing lines.

A Coast Guard crewman climbed in the water alongside the turtle and carefully removed the knotted mess.

We’re happy to report the sea turtle swam away safely after escaping the entangled lines.
