Burnet student arrested after threats to marching band

BURNET, Texas (KXAN) – A juvenile who told police he had a list of band members who he planned to kill was arrested 100 yards from where the band was practicing Wednesday morning.

Burnet Police tell KXAN they got a 911 call from a person who said he planned to kill people students at the Burnet High School campus. The school’s resource officer took the juvenile into custody as other officers swarmed the school.

Once in handcuffs, the suspect, who wasn’t identified because of his age, told officers he had a hit list with band members’ names. Police say the juvenile was unarmed.

“The threats toward students were focused on a possible fight in the near future,” the superintendent said in a statement. “All students who were directly named in the threats have been contacted personally by school staff.”

Burnet police released a statement saying the district and police department are working together on the the investigation.

“The Burnet Police Department would like to reiterate that all threats made at or towards our schools will be taken seriously and the safety of the students and staff members will continue to be of the utmost importance,” they said.
