Five people rescued from sinking charter boat

NEAR SILETZ BAY, Ore. (NBC/DVID) — The Coast Guard rescued five people from a sinking charter boat off the Oregon coast.

The Coast Guard received a mayday call from a 31-foot vessel that was quickly taking on water Saturday.

The five people aboard had to abandon ship.

A Jayhawk helicopter crew lowered a basket and hoisted three people from the ocean.

Two others were lifted to a second chopper from Good Samaritan boats that came by to help.

All five survivors were taken to the hospital in good condition.
