State of Texas: In Depth- National guard at the border

Austin (KXAN) – Texas lawmakers are gearing up for what could be a legislative session packed with border security legislation.

The guard will assist the U.S. Border Patrol which had more than 9,000 agents stationed in Texas last year.

Plus, there are an unspecified number of Department of Public Safety agents involved in Operation Strong Safety. That surge cost taxpayers nearly $7 million.

The National Guard will cost another $12 million. Than money is expected to come out of $38 million left over after DPS upgraded it’s radio equipment.

Host Josh Hinkle explains what the current happenings at the border mean for Texas.
