AUSTIN (KXAN) — Some Central Texans braved the heat Saturday for a long bike ride to prove a point.

As they pedaled 15 miles around the city, the group wanted to prove a point: if you plan accordingly, the heat is no reason to stay at home.

“As you stand here and you feel that radiant heat, it’s really hot,” said Bike Austin Board President Erick Benz. “But one of the coolest things is that when you’re on a bike, it’s instant air conditioning.”

Before setting off this morning, riders were reminded to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
