Kidnapped child home with grandmother, father facing charges

HOUSTON, Texas (KXAN/KPRC)- Jesse Thomas, who police say abducted his daughter in Austin Friday, is in custody after a police standoff in northwest Harris County.

DPS troopers spotted Thomas around 7 a.m. Saturday at FM 1960 and Kuykendahl in Houston.

After a chase, they were able to pop his tires with spike strips. Police say he was riding on his rims for a portion of time before stopping near Highway 249 & Spring Cypress.

Thomas was reportedly in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with his 2-year-old daughter, Cheyenne Johnson.

He was said to be holding a gun during the encounter.

Thomas abducted his daughter Friday afternoon from a South Austin home.

Negotiators were able to talk to Thomas via a cell phone they delivered to him.

Thomas surrendered more than two hours later at 9:20 a.m.

Cheyenne returned to Austin after she was returned with her grandparents Saturday afternoon.

The Amber Alert issued for her was discontinued at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

Thomas is facing charges of burglary, kidnapping and endangering a child.
