AUSTIN (KXAN) — Eight years after a terrifying attack, Austin Police say they have finally found their suspect.

Police say Saul Ramirez walked up a woman’s car while she waited for a friend at the Jack In The Box on North Lamar Boulevard back in 2006. According to an arrest report, Ramirez tried to rob her, threatened to kill her and then sexually assaulted her.

When the woman’s friend showed up, he punched Ramirez in the head and knocked him away from the woman. Ramirez was able to get away but left his shoes behind.

Officers entered the DNA into a state database, and when Ramirez was arrested on family violence charges last year in South Texas, APD finally got a match.

He is now charged with first degree aggravated sexual assault. Ramirez could spend up to 99 years in prison if he is found guilty.
