Austin 2-year-old kidnapped by father, Amber Alert issued

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police need help finding a 2-year-old girl who has been missing since about 2 p.m. on Friday. An Amber Alert was later issued for the girl.

Cheyenne Johnson was taken by her father, Jesse Thomas, who no longer has parental rights.

Police say Thomas showed up to his mother’s house on Friday and she refused to let him in. “He then went around to the back of the house, kicked in the door and took the child,” Austin Police Detective J.J. Schmidt said.

Police later received information that Thomas was at a UHaul store and a short pursuit followed. Authorities said Thomas reached speeds over 100 miles per hour as he fled from officers with the girl inside.

Thomas was driving black 2005 Mercury Marquis 4-door with Texas license plate number DN3F648. The car has 22-inch silver rims and damage to the rear bumper.
