Arrest made after caller reported someone throwing items onto I-35

Austin Police

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police arrested a man Tuesday who matched the description of a person who was reportedly throwing items off of an overpass and onto Interstate 35.

Austin police responded to the overpass at 38th 1/2 Street about 7:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call that someone was throwing objects onto the lower deck. The person officers arrested matched the description a caller gave to dispatchers.

Police said the man was arrested on outstanding warrant charges and it was later determined that he threw an empty grocery bag onto the highway.

Last week, authorities asked the public for help finding whoever was responsible for throwing rocks onto the interstate in the same area where Tuesday’s arrest happened.

One person sustained brain damage after the rock crashed through his windshield and caused him to crash. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
