AUSTIN (KXAN) — Governor Rick Perry’s response to the issues on the border has helped his polling numbers nationally. Now, Perry appears to have a political action committee ahead of the 2016 presidential race.
Late last week, campaign consultants created RickPac. That could allow him to raise money for different candidates. It is just the latest hint that Perry is building an organization for his second White House bid. But the mixture of campaigning and official business always leads to questions of motivation.
Sunday morning on CNN, Perry responded to accusations that his decision to activate the National Guard was just part of his presidential aspirations.
“I’m the governor of the state of Texas. My citizens’ safety is what is foremost here and hadn’t got anything to do with anything other than other than those numbers of individuals who are coming across the border,” he said on CNN’s State of The Union.
Committees like RickPac are fairly common among candidates who want a higher office.
