AUSTIN (KXAN) — Those headed downtown Friday evening will need to know about a lane closure that could slow traffic down.
It’s happening on Guadalupe between Third and Fourth streets.
It’s all part of the Third Street Reconstruction project which has closed two of the four lanes the past few weeks.
Beginning Friday at 6p.m. those lanes get squeezed down even further to just one lane for the weekend.
That’s because Austin Energy needs to upgrade its chilled water infrastructure, that work should be done by Sunday.
But the overall work in this area won’t be complete until October.
Crews are working on not only utility upgrades but also widening the sidewalks, putting in new trees, and the installation of the Lance Armstrong Bikeway that will have concrete barrier curbs that separates bikes from cars.
At the end of this month crews will shift their work from the southeast quadrant to the northeast side of the street.
