WIMBERLEY, Texas (KXAN) – The Hays County karate instructor facing sexual assault of a child charges groomed his victim with gifts, investigators wrote in his arrest warrant.
The alleged victim is an underage girl and was a student at the Kim Soo Karate dojo where Richard Griffin was the master instructor.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Griffin gave the girl a cellphone, money and other gifts during the alleged sexual relationship which went back two and a half years. He also made a marriage proposal according to the girl who also told investigators Griffin began pursuing her following his divorce. The allegations include Griffin picking the girl up from school and that sometimes she would skip school to spend more time with him.
Investigators say the girl chose to end the relationship in May and ultimately told her parents about it last week.
“…she can’t remember how many times the two had sexual intercourse however can remember the places,” the affidavit reads. The girl went on to list the locations which included her home, Griffin’s home and the Kim Soo Karate studio.
Griffin was booked into jail on two counts of sexually assaulting a child. If found guilty, he faces between 2-20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for each of charges.
