Thieves smash truck into beauty store to steal weaves

HOUSTON (NBC/KPRC) — Police say as many as eight thieves smashed into a Houston beauty supply store, and when they didn’t get away with cash, they made off with some very expensive hair weaves.

All it takes is one look to see where the suspects backed their truck into the store before then running inside to grab as much hair as they could.

The surveillance video shows a white truck slamming into Beauty Sensation just before 2 a.m.

The men in the truck are then joined by several other men and, what appear to be, women running into the store from another truck parked nearby.

Once inside the store, it’s a free-for-all as they grab only the most expensive hair.

The group was inside for less than two minutes, leading the owners of the store to believe the thieves had cased the store before.

“They knew exactly where it was,” said the store owner’s son Kevin Kim. “They threw away all the cheap hair on the floor, all the chemicals on the floor, and they only went for the expensive hairs. And they’re all scattered around the store, and they picked out all the expensive ones.”

Kim says the longer human-hair extensions that were stolen can cost more than $100 or $200 apiece, and the wigs cost $450. They estimate thousands of dollars worth of weaves were stolen.

“They’re devastated,” said Kim, referring to his parents. “Even I am speechless right now.”

Kim says his parents have owned this store for about six years. And though they’ve heard of similar incidents locally, this is an unfortunate first for their family.

The crime also caught their longtime manager by surprise.

“That’s pitiful,” said Denen Jacobs. “I mean, that man works hard, and I’ve been working with him for like five, six years. He works hard for what he had.”

The owners of the store are hoping they can get the damage fixed and cleaned up by the end of the day and hopefully reopen before the weekend.
