Rare ‘geep’ born is goat-sheep hybrid

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (CNN) — This little cutie is a “geep” — that is, a half-goat, half-sheep hybrid.

The unexpected kid, or lamb, or — well, it’s a little of both — was born at an Arizona petting zoo.

Sheep-goat hybrids are quite rare because the animals don’t often mate, and when they do, the offspring are usually stillborn.

In this case, the petting zoo owners didn’t even know their ewe was pregnant!

They’ve named the geep Butterfly because of her spots.

She’s less than a week old, and she’s already made friends with a horse at the ranch where she’ll grow up.
