AUSTIN (KXAN) — One person died in a crash between two 18-wheeler trucks on southbound Interstate 35, shut it down for nearly seven hours Wednesday morning.

The two trucks wrecked between East Braker Lane and Tech Ridge Boulevard just before 3:30 a.m.

Investigators say one big rig crashed into the back of the other, causing the load to shift and crumpling the cab of the truck in the back. At this point, the victim is only identified as a man in his 50s.

Austin Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team was called in to clean up a large diesel fuel spill that resulted from the crash. That spill area is several hundred feet long.
