Fire alarm prompts concern at ABIA

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A fire alarm prompted the evacuation of the terminal at Austin Bergstrom International Airport just before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Austin Airport Police tell KXAN News construction crews accidentally set off the alarm.

The fire alarm system uses an automated message that instructs travelers and workers to evacuate the building. Only a few passengers left the terminal before the false alarm could be silenced.

It was not immediately clear if any flights were delayed because of the alarm. A check of the airport’s arrivals and departures showed no delays. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
